PM Modi advises media to not misuse its power

Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is in Chennai to grace the 75 year celebration of the Daily Thanthi suggested that the media should not misuse its vested power.

Stating that a lot of media debate in the country is revolving around politics, the PM also stressed the need for ‘people’ stories as India has over 125 crore people. Modi also added that the media must strive harder to maintain its credibility.

“Editorial freedom must be used widely in public interest. The freedom to write does not include the freedom to be ‘factually incorrect’,” Modi said. Teh Prime Minister also went on to add that media has definitely power, but to misuse it is ‘criminal’.
 
The Prime Minister’s itenary also involves visiting Karunanidhi to enquire his health, visiting the memorial of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to pay his respects and also gracing a wedding ceremony of an IAS officer’s daughter in the city.
