As per an official statement issued by Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, everyone in the stranded Mahalaxmi Express has been successfully rescued. As many as 900 passengers had been stuck in the non-moving train in Maharashtra, which has been lashed by heavy rains.
"Under the guidance of the Prime Minister, the NDRF has made such advancement in its resources that it works successfully in any part of India when a situation arises. About 900 people were saved today due to the effective management by the PM and the Home Minister. The Home Ministry contacted Air Force officials, Railway officials and the Maharashtra government officials for effective co-ordination. We were in constant touch with Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis. The Home Minister himself monitored the operation," Rai said on Saturday evening.
"On behalf of the Home Minister, I express my gratitude to Railway officers, Defence officials - especially the Air Force officers, and everyone who helped in rescuing the passengers on-board the train," he added.
