Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Mersal’ created national frenzy over its dialogue which criticized the country’s Goods and Services Tax. Though the dialogue received vast approval and support from the political and the film fraternity, the film also received flak from senior BJP leaders.
A few days back, a petition was filed by advocate Ashwathaman in the Chennai High court to revoke the censor certificate of ‘Mersal’ citing that the film had wrong propaganda about the country’s GST.
However, now fans could breathe a sigh of relief as the apex court has decided to discount the case in its judgement. Citing that it is unacceptable to claim that people would take any film’s content unnassumingly, the High Court cleared ‘Mersal’ off with a clean slate owing to the lack of proper grounds.
