2012 is seeing a stylish beginning for itself with 'Players' that offers a lot when it comes to packaging, style, glitz and glamour. A multi starcast affair that boasts of some stunning action, it's USP is the presence of Abbas-Mustan who are returning after 'Race'. Now these men-in-white are good enough reasons to be more or less certain that 'Players' would be an entertaining flick.
However for this 'entertainer' to find an audience, the much needed buzz hasn't really seen a massive high. The obvious reasons being talked about are the cast members who don't quite have much hype going for them and the music which, though collectively good as a package, hasn't resulted in that chartbuster or two. Still, these very reasons may just die a silent death if the end product is good enough to entice audience into theatres.
Let's not forget that audience hasn't seen a new movie for quite some time since 'Don 2'. In fact single screen audience have been waiting for a biggie ever since 'The Dirty Picture' released. This means that there is indeed a consumer out there waiting for a good product. Now this is where word of mouth comes into play which means if the film indeed turns out to be good, sky is the limit for 'Players' since it is seeing a solo arrival for itself and that too a fortnight after 'Don 2' and a month after 'The Dirty Picture'. Moreover, the film has as many as three open weeks ahead with 'Agneepath' coming on Republic Day.
Due to these aforementioned reasons, makers of 'Players' shouldn't be really worrying if they are confident of their product. Yes, the opening would be on a lower note and the Friday could well be in 40%-50% range. However with word of mouth coming into play, this multi crore affair could well give Bollywood a reason to smile at the beginning of the year itself.
