Nandita Swetha awaits the release of 'Prema Katha Chitram-2' on April 6. In this interview, she talks about the horror-comedy, her experience of working with Sumanth Ashwin, what kind of roles she is getting to do in different languages, liking glamorous roles and more.
How do you differentiate between your roles in your first Telugu film and 'PKC-2'?
I never imagined 'Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada' would make such a big impact. Many have called me a 'Dayyam Pilla' since then. 'PKC-2' is a typical horror film. This is more a ghost character than what I did in 'EPC'. After 'EPC', almost all the offers that I got were horror movies. I said no to all of them.
Have you ever experienced a live ghost?
Ten years ago, I was going to a temple in a car. Everyone in the car was asleep. I was awake and I could see a ghost at a distance. I screamed and everyone woke up. By then, the car had moved on.
How did you approach your character in this flick?
There is a twist in 'PKC-2' regarding why the ghost comes into existence. The first part (PKC) didn't affect my performance in any way. I was being myself while doing it. Being feminine on the screen is my USP. I liked the title and I think it alone can ensure openings on itself. Content is its biggest strength.
How was it working with Sumanth Ashwin?
I was supposed to work with Sumanth Ashwin before this flick. But I couldn't do it. It was great working with him. We shot together for 40 nights and coordination is very important when you are doing tough schedules. Sumanth was very good throughout.
What kind of roles are you getting in Telugu and Tamil?
I am getting unexpected roles. I don't have dream roles as such. I want to do a Muslim girl's role. In 'Kalki', I am playing a Muslim girl. I can perform well with eyes wearing a hijab. I am doing a historical film in Tamil and Telugu titled 'IPC 376'. I have a strong role in it. A long-delayed film in the direction of Selvaraghavan is in the offing and it will release in both Telugu and Tamil. I am getting woman-centric films even though I am not trying for them. I would like to do other types of movies as well.
It seems you are not getting typical glam roles. Why so?
I never thought that I should look only beautiful on screen. I am ready to play a maid's role as well. I am shooting for 'Akshara', which is about education. I will be seen as a lecturer in it. The entire shoot is almost over. It has come out really well. I know it's very difficult to look hot and sexy. I respect all the heroines who look so glamorous. But I want to try deglam roles as well. I am getting to do only montage songs and I am waiting to do an item song (laughs).
What about your film in Kannada?
I am doing a film in Kannada opposite Yash (of 'KGF' fame). This film will release after 'KGF-2'. My calendar is full till July. I will sign up to do new movies after giving myself a break. I am not able to have a proper sleep because of the busy schedules.
Are you a foodie?
I am a foodie and I love Hyderabad. I have put on weight of late. I would eat Kulfis every day while in Vizag for the shoot of 'PKC-2'.
