Popular actress Kani Kusruti apart from her strong roles in Malayalam films has impressed with her powerful roles in Kollywood films such as 'Pisasu', 'Burma' and the highly rated short film 'Maa' in which she towered as a mature mom handling her teenage daughter's pregnancy.
Kani Kusruti has stated that though she loved acting in Malayalam movies she had to avoid many projects because of filmmakers demanding sexual adjustments and favors in return for roles. She has revealed that what was most shocking was that they approached her mother and asked her to convince her. Kani then quit films and went back to theater but could not earn enough to make a living. Now that the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) has come into force in Mollywood after the "MeToo" movement, Kani feels safe to work in the industry.
