Five criminals including the production / editing assistant of the film production, a police constable and three others were arrested and presented before the media some time ago by the Vijayawada Police and the Superintendent of Police, Krishna District, J Prabhakara Rao briefed the details of the crime and the order in which they were committed.

The SP said ‘The editing assistant who has the password for the Hard drives of the film had copied the final version of the film on the 9th August itself, a day after the film was announced to be released earlier and gave two CDs to his friends Prasanna and Anoop which was copied by Constable Ravi Kumar and that’s where the many CDs containing 90 minutes of the film have been sourced and circulated from. The movie was then uploaded from a cyber cafe in Machili Patnam. We are also taking the owner of the cafe into custody. All the individuals are booked under the IT act, Copyright Act 2008 and Section 420. While the extent of damage is not known yet, we believe that it would be minimal since the complaint was lodged within 24 hours of uploading the video and we could trace the crime to the culprits soon’

The editing assistant Arun Kumar said he didn’t copy it with an intention to pirate the CD but just to give it to his friends for a watch. He didn’t realize the quantum of the damage his irresponsible act could do. He denied the involvement of any biggies in motivating him to do the crime including anyone from the production house itself. The Police said the role of the friends also doesn’t look crucial since the motive couldn’t be established.
