Will new Piety Cyclone affect Chennai and Tamil Nadu

Only a few weeks back the Gaja cyclone that formed in the Bay of Bengal was predicted to hit the Chennai coast but enroute it changed paths and caused huge devastation to the Delta region in Tamil Nadu with normal life still not returning in many affected areas. The IMD has announced that a new cyclone named Piety has formed 930 Kms South East of Chennai and is moving in a Northerly direction at about 13kms per hour.

According to predictions the landfall of the cyclone Piety will be between Ongole and Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh. The next few days that is 15th, 16th and 17th of December will bring in heavy to very heavy rains to Chennai and Northern coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. Fishermen of the region have been adviced to stay away from the seas.
