After he was caught having sex with his secretary via a Zoom video conference call, a Philippines government official has been removed from his post.
The man, identified as Captain Jesus Estil, has been a village chief in the Dasmariñas town in Cavite. He was apparently unaware that the act was being recorded on camera and witnessed by several people in the council during the conference call on Zoom. Claiming that the incident was appalling and disturbing, Interior Undersecretary and spokesperson Jonathan Malaya reportedly stated, "If true, this is unbecoming of an elected government official. We assure the public that we will investigate this incident and will hold the barangay captain liable. The DILG under the leadership of Secretary Eduardo Año does not condone nor tolerate such obscene behavior of any local government official who is expected to conduct himself in a manner befitting his public office." Adding that the matter would be investigated, Malaya said, "The team is mandated to submit at the soonest time the result of its investigation to determine the liability of the barangay captain and his partner, and recommend his prosecution to the Office of the Ombudsman and the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Dasmariñas."
In the Philippines, "public officials are expected to display the highest moral and ethical standard as mandated by Republic Act No. 6713, also known as the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees," according to the Interior Undersecretary.
