Petrol pump owners have decided to close down more than 54,000 outlets across the country to protest against the Centre’s prerogative of determining or re-structuring prices of petrol and diesel on a daily basis.
Oil companies such as ONGC, HPCL and BPL had been determining prices of petrol and diesel every fortnight depending on the rise/decrease of cost of crude oil in the international market. In the meantime, it was decided by the Centre to determine the prices of petrol and diesel on a daily basis. Centre also hinted that it might introduce a new scheme by which petrol/diesel would be delivered at doorstep like gas cylinder.
In order to oppose this scheme and the practice of determining prices of petrol and diesel on a daily basis, petrol pumps across the country, numbering more than 54,000, have decided to close down their outlets from 13th October (next Friday) onwards.
In case Centre doesn’t roll-back its decision on the above-said issues, the petrol pump owners have decided to indulge in indefinite strike from 27th October onwards.
