Citing security-related issues, the local administration in Ahmedabad in Gujarat has denied permission to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi to campaign in the city by travelling via open jeeps.
The second phase of Assembly polls are to be held in the State in 93 constituencies on the day-after-tomorrow (14th December) for which today would be the last day of campaigning. Leaders of Congress and the BJP, the main parties in the fray, have been involved in intense campaign for the past few weeks. While the Prime Minister has been campaigning at Sabarmati, Rahul is concentrating at Jamalpur, Chawli, etc.
On the last day of the campaigning (today), the local administration has denied permission to the prime-minister, the Congress president and Patel community leader Hardik Patel to campaign in Ahmedabad.
It is feared by the authorities that permitting the trio to campaign in the same city on the same day might create huge law and order issues which are best avoided as there is less than 48 hours left for the commencement of the polling. Ahmedabad City police Commissioner has appealed to the Congress and the BJP and other parties to avoid causing disruption to people’s routine lives during their campaigning.
