A day after the Centre opened registrations for individuals above the age of 18, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy today said that vaccination for those under the age of 45 may not start anytime soon. He suggested that people will have to wait till September to receive vaccination.
The CM said that people above the age of 45 years will have to be vaccinated first before younger ones can be expected to find slots.
He also added that the entire vaccination drive for adults may not be completed before February 2021 in Andhra Pradesh.
It may be noted that States and private hospitals have to allot the slots for those who have reigstered themselves on Co-WIN and Aarogya Setu apps. Even if the registration has happened, it's only when it is confirmed that an individual will get his turn.
Considering that there is a shortage of vaccine shots in the short-term, what Jagan has said is in the realm of possibility. This goes to show that there is no immediate hope for youngsters around vaccination.
