Recently, director Tharun Bhascker was seen lamenting that 'Pelli Choopulu' got a raw deal at awards. Finally, the film has got its due. That too at the national level. And that too from National Awards!

The film has been given away the Best Telugu Film award by the committee. It's not mandatory that every year has a National Award for each language. If nothing is deserving of the coveted award, it's a blank. Thus, it's more valuable and respected than other awards.

Released in last July, the rom-com went on to earn humongous figures in Overseas. Even the makers didn't expect it to earn so much. Not only the director, but also Vijay Devarakonda, producer Raj Kandukuri and the female lead Ritu Varma's life changed for good after that.
