'Peaky Blinders' is a world-famous award-winning gangster drama television series created by Steven Knight. The period crime drama centred on a gangster family features an ensemble cast, led by Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory, and Paul Anderson starring as Tommy Shelby, Elizabeth "Polly" Gray, and Arthur Shelby respectively.
Set in Birmingham, England, the series follows the exploits of the Peaky Blinders crime gang in the direct aftermath of the First World War. The fictional gang is loosely based on a real urban youth gang of the same moniker, who were active in the city from the 1890s to the early 20th century. The show has completed 5 seasons and BBC recently launched the first trailer of the sixth and final season.
Cillian Murphy reprises the role of the ambitious gangster and politician 'Thomas Shelby'. Anya Taylor-Joy, Tom Hardy, Paul Anderson, Finn Cole, and Sophie Rundle will return for the final season. It is yet to be known whether Helen McCrory will appear in the finale as she passed away in April 2021 after battling cancer. The teaser didn't touch on the fate of the late actress.
Peaky Blinders Season 6 will see the characters walk into the mouth of World War II with glimpses of both a Nazi and an Oswald Mosley Blackshirts rally. It will also address the threats to Tommy Shelby OBE's crown and his own existential crisis. The notorious gangster's dialogues ad more intensity to the 1.5 minute-long featurette: "This will be the end of it," "One last deal to be done."
Steven Knight revealed to the media, "While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form." The creator confirmed to Variety in October that a Peaky Blinders film will begin production in 2023. He also teased the possibility of new "shows related" to the Peaky Blinders universe. Peaky Blinders airs on Netflix outside the UK and the last season will open in early 2022.
