Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has called for a ban on restaurants selling Chinese food. Speaking to ANI, the Minister said, "I appeal to people to boycott Chinese food." It's not clear whether he wants a boycott or a ban. Either way, though, what he has said is the height of idiocy. It's because restaurants selling Chinese food in India are not China-owned but run by Indians. Their employees are Indians.

The Minister, in March, was in the news when he gave a laughable slogan to chase away Covid-19. "Let's chant 'Go corona, corona go'," he suggested. The video of him making the silly statement went viral.

Soon after today's comment, several on Twitter are trolling him. Social media influencer Mohan Sinha wrote, "Yeh lo. Please sing along with Athawale Saheb. "Go Chinese Go. Chinese Go Go"."

An angry social media user wrote, "When commonsense died, Athawale was born. Chinese food only has Chinese name in it, it is made in India, made by Indians and served to Indians." One Sidharth Bhutra observed, "The phrase "think out of the box" should be renamed to "Think Athawale". "
