The enforcement of nationwide lockdown to prevent a community spread of the novel coronavirus has come as a blessing in disguise for the environment. As soon as humans emptied the streets, animals and reptiles took over.

In Kerala, a newly built empty house has become an undisturbed playground for a peacock flock. With the lockdown, the house owners were unable to conduct the housewarming ceremony, which was scheduled to happen in April first week. As the function was postponed, the house remains closed and unoccupied.

The house owners couple - a school teacher and an ex-military officer, make frequent visits to their unoccupied house. On one of their recent visits, they noticed a flock of peacocks roaming around the house and premises. After learning that the birds are regular visitors here, the couple now brings food to feed them. In fact, now whenever the couple arrives to see their house, the peacocks dance and welcome them with their mesmerizing beauty.

Meanwhile, it is reported that elephant herds and wild gaur are being spotted on many other forest fringe areas. However, no incidents of man-animal conflict are reported.
