The Andhra Pradesh government, through the AP Beverages Corporation Limited, recently issued liquor bonds. The same have fetched Rs 8,000 Cr. The YS Jaganmohan Reddy government was expecting not more than Rs 2,000 Cr. But the over-subscription has stunned everyone.
Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan has criticized the government for reneging on its promise of banning liquor in the State. Far from imposing Prohibition, the government is issuing liquor bonds, he lamented in a strong tweet made on Sunday.
"From promising Prohibition, the government is making a windfall from liquor bonds," the Jana Sena Party supremo tweeted, also alleging that YCP leaders own liquor distilleries and shops in the State and therefore, the windfall is going to benefit them the most. The 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu' actor also made a sly dig using religious lingo to hit out at Jagan.
The AP government has been hard-pressed for finances, thanks to its indiscriminate populism and financial indiscipline. The over-subscription of the liquor bonds must be giving it a high! No wonder the news is hogging headlines.
