Power Star Pawan Kalyan has spoken out on three of the biggest controversies in recent times. In his interview to a national English language channel, PK has talked about his thoughts on Aamir and SRK adding their chorus to the intolerance debate, the Rohith Vemula issue and the JNU controversy.
What's your response to the way Aamir and SRK have responded to the "intolerance" debate?
I don't understand the concept of intolerance. Actors should measure their words. If you say something out of conviction, stick to it; don't run away from it. If someone says there is intolerance, he should stick to his guns and prove his point through a reasoned argument. Don't keep on changing your stand as that will only confuse people. Actors have a greater reach. I don't speak for the sake of saying something because I feel that there are many people who like me. They believe in what I say, but what if I am wrong? Even if you have to say something, you have to ask yourself, "Am I really going to make a change by speaking up?"
What is your reaction to the Rohith Vemula issue, which happened in your home state?
It's painful that many are viewing the issue through the prism of caste or community. We can't deny the existence of caste in India. We have to live with it. What I don't understand is, how come politicians want to make an issue out of only this particular incident? If you want to change the state of affairs in India, don't target just one issue. I look at it as a student issue. It's not a Dalit issue. A student was denied what he was supposed to get. If your end goal is to mete out justice to Vemula, would you be achieving it by this kind of politiciking?
How do you look at the JNU issue?
I was reading a lot about it. Anything anti-national is unacceptable. But falsely implicating someone is not right. We can debate in parliamentary language. You can disagree with me. But don't be anti-country and anti-Constitution.
