At a meet held to bring pressure on the government to take up the cause of the victims of AgriGold scam, actor and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan demanded that a white paper on the properties held by the owners of AgriGold company be released. He urged the Government of Andhra Pradesh to deal sternly with the scamsters by going after them the way Subroto Roy of Sahara has been dealt with by the Supreme Court. "If the need be, a Task Force involving the Chief Ministers of the various States affected by the scam should be set up urgently. The scam has directly and indirectly affected about 40 lac people in almost all Southern States put together," Pawan said today.
"The hard-earned savings of ordinary people have been scammed away. At least 13 lac people have lost a minimum of Rs. 20,000. As a first step, the government should sell away the assets held by the scamsters and their company and use the proceeds to compensate the victims. Some lives have been lost. The death of a youngster recently should become the last one. The agents of the company, who worked on faith, are facing threat to their life and property for no mistake of theirs. When a company is given away awards by the governments, it's but natural that people trust it. People have been cheated today," he said.
"I don't know why the TDP government is not able to do justice, but if it fails, I am ready to wage a united fight with 'vama pakshalu'. Political connivance can't be ruled out," Pawan said. He also demanded that the AP govt pays some immediate compensation the way West Bengal govt paid the victims of Sharada scam.
"People's problems are more important to me than my film career," he said when audience asked him to talk about his movies.
