Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan on Sunday asked his party cadres to ensure that air and water pollution is abated at the earliest. He asked his workers, calling them Jana Sainiks and Veera Mahilas, to spot those industries and civic bodies which are actively or passively releasing pollutants into air or water bodies/groundwater.
Untreated waste seeping into water bodies is a health hazard. It is the responsibility of local governments and specific authorities to ensure that industries and other players emitting pollutants are made to follow the environmental norms. If they are not doing so, the Jana Sena Party is going to bring them to public notice.
Pawan said that his party workers have to identify the cement companies, pharma units and chemical industries that are destroying the water resources, standing crops and fishery wealth.
The chief of the party lamented that the Andhra Pradesh government has suddenly developed "affection for the environment". He suggested that institutional capacity (the State Pollution Control Board) has to be buttressed.
