Passengers fined at Chennai metro for not wearing face mask

While the statewide lockdown continues to be in place amid the Covid-19 pandemic in Tamil Nadu, a number of restrictions have been eased owing to the steady drop in the number of fresh cases of the viral infection.
Meanwhile, numerous passengers at the Chennai metro have been fined for not following the safety protocols ever since the resumption of train services from June 21. A penalty of Rs. 200 has reportedly been imposed on passengers if they were caught not wearing a mask or were found wearing it without properly covering the nose/mouth. A Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) official was reportedly quoted as saying by a news agency, We follow the guidelines of Central Public Works Department (CPWD) with respect to air conditioning of trains and stations and keep temperature at 24 to 30 degree Celsius and also the inflow of fresh air into stations has been placed at the maximum level. Lifts, escalators and other touch points are constantly cleaned too.
Tamil Nadu recorded 3211 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, bringing the state tally to 25,10,059. While Coimbatore reported 366 new cases, Chennai accounted for 189 cases of the viral infection. 57 people succumbed to the illness on Thursday, bringing the total to 33,253.
