For the first time in his more than two-decade old career, R Parthiban is planning to work on a sequel for his earlier hit. Immediately after the release of his forthcoming venture 'Vithagan', the actor-director will float the 'second part' of 'Azhagi'.

"The sequel has been titled 'Shanmugathin Dhanalakshmi'. I am playing the protagonist besides directing it. And the leading lady is none other than Nandita Das, who beautifully played her role in the first part," Parthiban says.

'Azhagi', a film directed by Thangar Bachan, had Parthiban, Nandita and Devayani in lead roles. It portrayed the impact of first love and went on to win various awards and accolades from all possible quarters.

"The sequel will start from where the first part ends. It will deal with a search by Shanmugam (Parthiban) for his Dhanalakshmi (Nandita), who leaves him after understanding that her presence would create problems in his married life," circles close to Parthiban say.
