'Parasite', the South Korean black comedy thriller, today created history at the Oscars by becoming the first non-English speaking film to win the Academy’s most prestigious award - Best Picture.

"'Parasite' is also the first film from a South Korean director to win the Best Picture, and the first with a primarily Asian cast," reported 'Verge'.

Its director, Bong Joon-ho, has now become one of the most celebrated filmmakers in the world.

Best Screenplay, Best Director, and Best International Feature Film awards, too, went to 'Parasite'. The cast of the film was collectively given the SAG award for Best Performance by an Ensemble Cast in a film.

The film has been critically acclaimed across the world. "The main themes of Parasite are class conflict and social inequality and a reflection of modern capitalism," a critic has said.
