The box office performance of Bollywood movies has declined heavily in recent months and it is believed that ongoing boycott trends are a major factor behind this situation. In a recent media interaction, actor Pankaj Tripathi talked about this issue and stated that Bollywood needs to do a self assessment in order to rightly identify the problem.
The actor told Siddharth Kannan, "Self-assessment is needed about what we are making and how we are making it—that’s necessary and that’s what is lacking.” Opening up about boycott trends, Pankaj said, "If a film is bad, it doesn’t work, and doesn’t get boycotted. People don’t go to the cinema halls. That’s also a boycott then, isn’t it? There is no social media campaign then, and no hashtag but the film still doesn’t work. But yes self-assessment is needed.
Last year, Pankaj played a significant role in Kabir Khan's sports drama '83' which unfortunately failed at box office. When asked whether he feels upset about film's performance, Pankaj said, “No, no, I’m not upset, I haven’t invested anything in the film. I did what I had to do, with full sincerity and what happens after that, is not in my hands.”
