Pani Thuli Review

It is the solo sojourn of Ganesh Venkataraman. He had been part of films like 'Abhiyum Nanum' and 'Unnaipol Oruvan' before.

But 'Panithuli' holds an important place in his career now. Directed by Natty Kumar and Dr Jay, the movie speaks about a youth's travails in his romance.

What happens when an individual loses his memory temporarily and how it affects his love life forms the crux of the movie.

Love is a powerful emotion, but what happens when distance grows between lovers? This is what the protagonist Shiva (Ganesh Venkataraman) experiences when he leaves Chennai to take up a job in the US.

The directors have ensured that the movie looks sophisticated and have opted for state-of-the-art technology for making the film.

A Red One camera with special lenses has been used to give a different look to some parts of the movie.

Though romance is the buzz word, there are enough suspense elements that manage to sustain the interest of the audience. But at places, the scenes are flat and look amateurish.

Shiva (Ganesh venkataraman) is an IT graduate, who is in love with Archana (Kalpana Pandit), a medical student. Shiva lands up with a big job in USA.

However Archana's father throws a challenge before Shiva leaves to USA. He agrees to get her daughter married to him on one condition that he should not call up or try to meet his daughter for the next one year.

After a couple years, one can see a total change in Shiva. He romances his colleague Maya (Shibana Shankar) and forgets Archana. But one evening, he is suddenly drawn to his past. Thoughts about Archana come up. He rushes to the doctor only to find out that a truth about him, which he didn't know so far.

Ganesh Venkataraman does a decent job. He is bubbly, youthful and handsome. The tall and fair actor has plenty of action to do in the film. He has tried his best to live up to the role. Kalpana Pandit and Shibana Sankar play female leads.  The movie has almost all characters played by  newcomers.

Music by Agnel Roman and Faizan Hussain is refreshing. But at places the songs put a brake to the movie's proceedings. 'Kan Parpathu Ellam...' and 'Uyirin Uyirae...' are pleasant to listen to.

Cinematography done on Red One camera is cool. Especially the scenes in USA and the chase have been captured well.

The movie begins on an interesting note. But it's too lengthy, loses steam as it progresses and revolves around amnesia, something which we have seen in many Tamil movies.

The director duo should have concentrated more on the script and made it crisper.
