Director Sukumar has turned producer with romantic entertainer Kumari 21F. The film is a hard-hitting love story directed by Palnati Surya Prathap of Current fame. The film is hitting the screens on November 20 and Prakash talks about Kumar 21F and Sukumar in an interview.

Why it took five years for you to wield the megaphone again?

After Current, I planned to direct another film. It was only then I landed an opportunity to work as one of the associate directors to Sukumar. I was initially apprehensive to take up the new job as I already become a director. But, I took up the new role to gain more confidence as a writer. I worked for 1-Nenokkadine with Sukumar and during the compltion of the film, he penned the script for Kumari 21F. One day, he called me and asked me to direct this film. I am feeling blessed to have got an opportunity to direct a film in Sukumar's maiden production.

Whose brainchild was Kumari 21F?

Definitely Sukumar's! He put all his experiences into a story and added some melodrama to it.

What is Kumar 21F all about?

The film is a hard-hitting love story. The film reflects the mindset of today's youth. If a boy meets a girl, what will happen in their lives? What do they think about each other? is what Kumari 21F is all about. It's a feel good love story and don't believe in any rumours of having violence in it.

He will be seen in a new dimension. We showed the unexplored side of Raj Tharun in this film.

Are you nervous working with senior technicians like Rathnavelu and Devi Sri Prasad?

Not really. I knew him from Arya days. I worked with him in 1-Nenokkadine. He likes my dedication and passion towards films. At the same time, Devi Sri Prasad scored the music for my debut film Current. I am feeling lucky to have worked with these great technicians. Our entire unit put sincere efforts to dish out a wonderful film.

Why did you replace Sheena Bajaj with Heebah Patel?

We had a trail shoot with Sheena and after seeing the rushes we felt she couldn't justify the role. Hence, we have roped in Heebah as her replacement. However, the choice of Raj Tharun is unanimous.

Is it true that Kumari 21F is inspired from Hollywood film Girl Next Door?

Kumari 21F has no similarities with any film. It's completely the thought of Sukumar. All the rumours on the film are baseless. Sukumar doesn't like to take any story or theme from any film.

How was it working with 'producer' Sukumar?

It's been fantastic. He didn't interfere in direction and completely believed in my abilities. He only asked me to make a quality film and never compromise on delivering what I was meant for!

What are your upcoming films?

I am right now busy promoting Kumari 21F and didn't sign any new movie. I want to travel along with Sukumar, no matter what! We bond well and he treats me like his younger brother. I will wait for his call.
