Another World Cup debate has just begun. This time it has to do with an advertisement. A Jazz TV ad for the Pakistan Cricket Team has mocked Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman's responses during his capture by Pakistan, after his MiG - 21 Bison aircraft was shot down. The video shows a man wearing a blue Indian-like jersey impersonating Varthaman with his classic handlebar mustache. When an interrogator asked “If you win the toss, what will you choose?” he says “I’m sorry, I’m not supposed to tell you that Sir” just as Varthaman said when he was asked about his mission.
He goes on to say “I’m sorry, I’m not supposed to tell you this” when asked who will be in the playing 11. The man is then asked how the tea is to which he says “Tea is fantastic” as was said by the Wing Commander. He is then told he can leave but is stopped by the interrogator who asks him: “Wait one second, where are you taking the cup?” with emphasis on the word ‘Cup’ referring to the WC trophy. This is followed by a message #LetsBringTheCupHome.
Netizens are angry with this representation of the hero and the way the sensitive matter has been portrayed. Others have used the video to their advantage and have been coming up with some funny responses.
Jazz TV advt on #CWC19 takes the Indo-Pak air duel to new level. It uses the air duel over Nowshera and Wing Co Abhinandan Varthaman's issue as a prop. @IAF_MCC @thetribunechd @SpokespersonMoD @DefenceMinIndia pic.twitter.com/30v4H6MOpU
