Surprises never fail to cease when it comes to India's selection for Oscars.

This time around it is colorful folk tale 'Paheli' that has been selected as India's official entry for the 2006 Oscars.

The movie just about managed to break even at the box office in India though it was a major success overseas.

Now this Shahrukh Khan production sees itself as a contender with the best movies across globe.

The movie has been selected out of various other critically acclaimed movies like Iqbal, Swades, Parineeta, Page 3, Black, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and some regional flicks like Sachein (Tamil), Anniyan (Telugu), Uttarayan (Marathi), Achuvante Anna (Malayalam), Graham (Telugu), and Kadal (Tamil).
