A film which boasted of a refreshing story lines, great and difficult double roles, the reunion of Dileep with his guru Kamal - much was hyped about Pachakuthira. But the whole film is a knotty demonstration of unaspiring exercises. In the Vishu assay of approval, Pachakuthiara will hardly hold the crowds for long.

The first titles to appear onscreen is of story idea credited to Dileep but the film is a sad rehash of the Oscar winner Rainman. No department in the film shows any kind of brilliance to match the original, even though the latter is treated as a comedy.

The film tells the story of Anandakkuttan, a junior artists supplier who is an orphan with little images about his mother who left for Germany, when he was seven. Anandakuttan, naturally a self made man is in all sort of distress with little to spent, even though he enjoys a better love life with Nimmy (played by Gopika) who is also an extra artist. Nimmy has got her share of problems with a paralised father, a sister and a halfbuilt house. Anandakuttan is managing a group of extra artists who work in various films in  crowd sequences and passings.

Into these surroundings come Aakashmenon from Germany - the mentally handicapped younger brother of Anandakuttan, following their mother's death in Germany. Anandakutttan is a happier man to welcome Aakashmenon, an unsociable, ill mannered  person, expecting him to bring lakhs of euros as a fortone.  Their gang raise funds to provide great hospitality to  the new guest , but find themselves in more chaos as Aakashmenon creates more economic hassles day after day . Days later, Anandakuttan gang realizes that Aakashmenon has arrived even without a penny  in hand and all they could do was to dislodge him to avoid more issues. As they tries many ways to clear off the intruder, their appears a  mesihah  in the form of a wealthy industrialist, again from Germany who can take care of Aakashmenon and can pay Aanandakuttan any price for the exchange. Will Anandakuttan agree to this deal? The story follows the deal and the reasons for the interests of the industrialist in Aakashmenon.

Dileep is Anandakuttan and his unhandsome brother Aakashnmenon. While Dileep was able to bring in a decent performance to present the later realistic, the lead character Aanndakuttan couldn't draw better  impresssions. Gopika has not much to do in the film while Salimkumar, Machan Varghese, Dinesh and co tries to add humor to the  proceedings with little success.

Even Though the story presents promises, little had been done to extract a well made film even in the script or in the direction. The film at times stands well below forcefulness, and suits more for a children audience. Even the four songs in the film by ilayaraja don't demand a better hearing. One of the major misses is the  poor  rerecording, which  is hardly distinguishable to this otherwise heavy drama. The film is an unbelievable  letdown for the die hard  fans of  Kamal films, who holds a definite audience in every families.
