Paasakiligal had generated alot of pre-release interest for it has story, dialogues and screenplay by DMK chief M Karunanidhi. Unfortunately the movie fails to live up to the expectations. It is about sibling bond, a beaten to death theme in several films over the years.
The dialogues and character names remind one of early days of Tamil cinema clearly indicating that Karunanidhi is still to come to terms with recent developments in Tamil cinema.
The movie happens in two villages --- Aalur and Melur. Sethupathy (Prabhu) and his brother Sathayya (Murali) shower boundless affection on their sister Maragatham (Navya Nair).
Maragatham falls in love with Nallarasu (Vineeth), brother of Vairagya Boopathy (Nasser), a chieftain in neighboring Aalur village.
Enters Alakalan (Kalabhavan Mani) with an ulterior motive . He marries Angayarkanni (Roja), sister of Vairagya Boopathy. He creates enimity between the families of Sethupathy and Vairagya Boopathy. Mistaking Sethupathy for bringing him disrepute among villagers, Vairagya Boopathy commits suicide.
As a result Nallarasu marries Maragatham only to take revenge on her. The rest is all but how Sethupathy and Sathayya set everything in order.
But for Prabhu and Navya Nair, the rest of the cast speaks lengthy dialogues but fails to impress. Navya Nair seems to have given her heart-out in playing the central role in the movie. She emotes well and has given a matured performance.
Vadivelu tries to evoke humor. Kalabhavan Mani playing the baddie has given an average performance.
Vidyasagar's music is hummable. An outdated screenplay and slow moving scenes makes the movie like a TV serial.
