The Thirupananthaal police have registered a case against Pa. Ranjith citing his controversial speech on ancient Tamil king Raja Raja Cholan on June 5th while speaking at a public event in Thanjavur. The 'Kaala' director had approached the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court for anticipatory bail.
The anticipatory bail petition came up for hearing today and Judge Rajamanickam pointing to some mistakes in the police petition had asked them to correct it and resubmit. By adjourning the case to June 21st automatically stopped the arrest of Ranjith till that date. Over 300 artists have signed petitions under the umbrella ‘Coalition for Artist's Right to Speech, to the Chief Minister Edappadi Pazhaniswamy to stop legal action against the maverick filmmaker and activist.
