AIMIM has won five Assembly seats in the Bihar Assembly elections. At one point during the long day of counting on Tuesday, the party looked set to become a kingmaker along with a couple of Independents. However, with the BJP-JDU getting a clear majority, the chance was missed by a whisker.
Asaduddin Owaisi was asked by a senior journalist about whether he would support the UPA (comprising RJD and Congress) and become a kingmaker. Owaisi said that he would take a call after consulting his party leaders in Bihar. That was not to be. By 10:30 PM, the NDA was declared a winner.
Speaking to ANI, Owaisi said that his party leaders and workers have put a lot of efforts into strengthening AIMIM in Bihar. "Our fight is for the development of Seemanchal, which is one of the most backward areas of India," Owaisi said.
Owaisi has been accused of indirectly helping the NDA by dividing Muslim votes. Speaking to India Today, the Hyderabad MP said that both BJP and Congress are two sides of the same coin.
