She was named Helen by her parents. But the screen name Oviya she took for ‘Kalavani’ has made her more popular. After the great beginning in ‘Kalavani’, Oviya has become one of the fastest rising young actresses of Kollywood.

But Oviya is not in a hurry and is picking up her films with care. As every other promising actor Oviya also says she prefers films with good story and scope for her talents.

Considering all factors Oviya has signed two films recently. First is 'Sevanu'. It introduces a new hero Aman. The director of this film is Cameraman Jeevan who directed Pa. Vijay's 'Gnabagangal'. If Oviya was an agmark village belle in ‘Kalavani’, in ‘Sevanu’ she plays a contrasting modern girl. The second film of Oviya has a poetic title 'Agam Nee.. Mugam Naan'. This is directed by debutante Saravanan. Hero will be a new face but Oviya says that doesn’t matter and she is concerned only about the story.
