It has been reported that Teja Sajja's Hanu-Man, Payal Rajput's Mangalavaaram, and Prabhas' Kalki 2898 AD were shortlisted as possible contenders for India's official Oscar 2025 nomination. These films, representing a diverse range of genres including superhero action, mystery thriller, and sci-fi historical drama, all performed impressively at the box office.
Following the announcement of the shortlist, Payal Rajput shared her thoughts about Mangalavaaram and Kalki 2898 AD being in consideration. She expressed her admiration for Prabhas, saying, "If Prabhas wins, I'll feel like I've received a reward. Thanks for all the love and support. I love my fans who made me who I am today."
Her affectionate comments toward Prabhas have won over fans, further fueling ongoing rumors about a potential relationship between the two. Payal Rajput has previously shared her admiration for the pan-India star, and these latest remarks have only intensified speculation. However, neither Prabhas nor Payal has addressed the rumors directly.
While speculation was high about their potential Oscar bid, the Film Federation of India (FFI) has officially announced India's final selection for the prestigious awards.
Early this morning, the FFI confirmed that Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies has been chosen as India’s official entry for the 2025 Academy Awards. The film triumphed after a rigorous selection process, beating prominent contenders like Kalki 2898 AD, Hanu-Man*, and Mangalavaaram.
Laapataa Ladies, produced by Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan, and Jyoti Deshpande, features rising stars Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastav, and Prathibha Ranta in lead roles, alongside seasoned actors like Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam, and Abhay Dubey. Since its OTT release, the film has garnered widespread acclaim for its compelling narrative and stunning visuals, resonating with both Indian and international audiences. Director Kiran Rao expressed her excitement, stating: "It would be a dream come true if Laapataa Ladies reaches the Oscars. It's a journey, and I hope it gets the recognition it deserves."
The film's success is bolstered by Ram Sampath's evocative music, Vikash Nowlakha's stunning cinematography, and heartfelt performances, fueling optimism for its chances in the Best Foreign Film category.
As the Oscar journey for Laapataa Ladies continues, the excitement around India’s selection builds, with many hopeful that it will make an impact on the global stage.
If Prabhas wins, I'll feel like I've received a reward.🌸💟
