The Academy pays a tribute to late Irrfan Khan

The 93rd Academy Awards were held recently and this time they something for Indian cinephiles as well. The Academy acknowledged the contribution of legendary Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan to the global film community and paid him an emotional tribute along with late Chadwick Boseman and costume designer Bhanu Athaiya. Apart from Hindi films, Irrfan had quite a successful run in Hollywood films as well.

He starred in blockbusters like The Amazing Spider-Man, Life of Pi, Jurassic World, Inferno and others. Irrfan's 'Slumdog Millionaire' co-star Frieda Pinto wrote, "There was simply no one like Irrfan Khan. His grace and dignity along with his monumental talent as an artist, actor - a portrayer of humanity in all it's shapes and forms - made me not only have deep admiration for him but I instinctively wanted to emulate that grace in my career as well."

The Academy also paid a tribute to Irrfan soon after his demise last April. They tweeted, "A mainstay of Bollywood cinema and incredible talent in films like Slumdog Millionaire, Life of Pi and The Namesake, Irrfan Khan left his imprint on global cinema. An inspiration to millions, he will be greatly missed."

During the ceremony other recently deceased actors like Max Von Sydow, Sean Connery, Diana Rigg, Helen McCrory were also honored.
