The 90th Academy Awards ended on Sunday and the list of winners has been seen as largely conventional with its share of unconventional choices.

As per columnist Leigh Blickley, 'The Shape of Water' winning the Best Picture award is surprising. "In nearly a century of Best Picture wins, genre films have had a hard time making it past the nomination phase. Set in a secret government laboratory, laced with Russian-espionage intrigue, and topped off with an interspecies sex scene, 'The Shape of Water' fits squarely in the realm of genre: science fiction," the columnist says.
