Cyberabad, the area which plays host to the IT companies in Hyderabad, has witnessed the rescue by police of 581 children from child labour and trafficking over the past year. Last year in June, the Commissioner of Police in Cyberabad formed the team in order to prevent child trafficking, rescue children made to beg and battle other antisocial activities involving minors.
Three Smile Teams worked in different zones of the locality. It has been reported that a total of 543 children with 339 boys and 204 girls who were rescued have been sent to a home. 38 children (29 boys and 9 girls) were also reunited with their parents. It is not only the numbers which indicate the seriosity of the problem. The fact that such an issue exists itself is abysmal, but the successful rescue efforts are heartening.
