Recently, Rahul Gandhi said at a public rally that a separate ministry dedicated to the fisheries sector will be instituted when the Congress party comes to power at the Centre. The fact of the matter is that such a Ministry already exists. The NDA government instituted it for the first time in India’s history in 2019. Thousands of tweets, including those made by BJP functionaries and journalists, criticized the Congress leader for not knowing the fact despite him being a four-time Member of Parliament.
The news is that, on Wednesday, RaGa made the same statement all over again. The Wayanad MP was addressing a gathering of fishermen at Kollam’s Thangassery beach. He said that just like our farmers farm the land, fishermen farm the sea. Saying that none speaks for farmers in Delhi, Rahul then said that the first thing he will do when he comes to power is to have a Ministry dedicated to fishermen.
Criticism has started flowing already. Columnist Sreemoy Talukdar noted, “Just a few days ago this gentleman was fact-checked on his comments about the existence of fisheries ministry. He has repeated the same lie within a matter of days. It suggests that he takes the mass for morons.”
Interestingly, Rahul had asked the Fisheries Minister a question in Parliament.
