A Netflix Christmas special from a Brazil-based YouTube comedy group depicts Jesus as gay and it has offended over a million Christians, as they have signed a petition demanding its withdrawal.
The 46-minute special film, titled 'The First Temptation of Christ', also shows Mary, the mother of Jesus, as a weed smoker. Such controversial representations have sparked outrage among people from across the world and they have additionally demanded an unconditional apology from Netflix. The description of the film on the streaming site read, "Jesus, who's hitting the big 3-0, brings a surprise guest to meet the family. A Christmas special so wrong, it must be from comedians Porta dos Fundo."
The president of the Indian Christian Voice, Abraham Mathai, reportedly stated, "As a member of the Christian community and follower of Christ, I join the rest of hundreds of thousands who have registered their protests calling for the Netflix Christmas Special depicting Jesus in a gay relationship to be axed immediately. Even though freedom of expression is a fundamental and a constitutional right, using the same liberty to offend the sentiments of the members of a particular faith persuasion is highly abhorrent and totally unacceptable."
This is not the first time the Brazilian comedy group, Porta dos Fundos, is making a controversial religious special, as their previous tale, 'The Last Hangover', showed Jesus' disciples looking for him the morning after the Last Supper.
