The Union Health Ministry on Tuesday said that the coverage of beneficiaries aged over 60 years has crossed one crore in just 15 days. It was on March 1 that individuals above the age of 60 were made eligible to receive vaccine shots across the country in both government and private healthcare centres.
On Monday (March 15), the highest number of individuals were vaccinated. The number stood at 30,39,394 people.
So far, 3.29 crore people have been vaccinated across the country since vaccination began in January.
Speaking in Parliament today, Union Health Minister Harshavardhan said that vaccines aren't being sent to other countries at the expense of the people of India. He added that experts at the highest level and a Government-appointed committee are maintaining a sensible balance.
Meanwhile, night curfews are returning to parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat, the former of which is in the initial stages of the second wave. In Gujarat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot will have night curfews from 10 pm to 6 am between March 17 and March 31.
