Onbathu Rupai Nottu
Realism. It is the key word that drives Thangar to excel in his films. Be it his film 'Azhagi', 'Solla Marantha Kathai' or the recent 'Pallikoodam', Thangar opted for a realistic portrayal which paid him rich dividends.
A director to reckon with in Tamil cinema for his passion to Tamil culture and values, Thangar Bachan is ready with his next 'Onbathu Rupai Nottu'. It is inspired by his own novel titled the same.
Thangar tries to look at the reality of life in different ways in each of his film. 'Azhagi' was a look back at the romance at an adolescent age. 'Solla Marantha Kathai' was about the troubles between a middle class youth and his father-in-law. 'Pallikoodam' dealt with the condition of the schools, which creates future citizens of the country. Now in 'Onbathu Rupai Nottu', the director throws light on the need to take care of our elders.
Sathyaraj plays the pivotal role as Madhava Padayachi. Former National award winning actress Archana plays his wife. Nasser and Rohini don important roles.
Speaking about the movie, Thangar, says, "The movie will have the flair and flavour of our villages. It will strike the audience immediately. All the characters have a part to play and they have performed well".
"It is story of an elderly coupe left uncared by their kith and kin. The film revolves around three different periods. The narration begins in 1972 and ends in 2007", adds the director.
Thangar is confident that the audiences are always receptive to good themes. He firmly feels that they are ready to welcome new themes. According to him, the success of 'Pallikoodam' is a pointer to this aspect.
"We shot a major portion of the film in interior Tamilnadu and people turned up in large numbers to encourage us during the shooting", informs Thangar.
Thangar Bachchan is heaping laurels on Sathyaraj: "He has played a challenging character which demands more dedication. He was at ease doing the role. Archana was equally impressive."
On music composer Bharadwaj, Thangar says, he has proved his mastery in music by coming up with catchy tunes in 'Pallikoodam'. Now his music in 'Onbathu Rupai Nottu' is "a step above and are soul-stirring". "Equally appealing are the lyrics by Vairamuthu", complements the director.
Sathyaraj is excited about his character. "After Periyar, I am happy to play a strong character. Madhava Padayachi is a human being with a difference. He leads a contended in his own village though left by his children. I am confident that my role would be appreciated by the people", says Sathyaraj.
Onbathu Rupai Nottu is produced by A L Ganesan. B Lenin handles editing.
The movie is slated for November end release.
