Onam festival is coming up in around thirty days, and as usual big budget star studded films are in the run to reach the theatres in time. Onam is the biggest festival for Malluwood, with films planned well in advance.

Even today an Onam release for any hero is a prestigious project. It is normally the only time of the year when superstar films clash with each other, as they release simultaneously in the season. It is also the only season where many films released in the consecutive dates could make better responses and initials through out the season .And thus the success of many flicks are guaranteed.

But this year's Onam holds very special for the number of releases that are in the pipeline to storm the theatres. As of now, a record eight films have announced that they will get released for Onam. An investment of around 28 crores is made in these projects, which also showcases every stars presence in box office during the season. The first film to hit the theatres this festive season will be ‘Classmates’, directed by Lal Jose. It has Pritviraj, Naren, Indrajeet and Kavya in the lead roles. This campus based story for the youth is scheduled for release on August 25.

‘Bhargavacharitram Moonam Ghandam’ is a mass masala thriller with Mammootty, Sreenivasan and Padmapriya in the lead roles and Joemon , the Mammootty specialist- is the director.

‘Mahasamudram’ has Mohanlal and Laila as the lead pair and S.Janardhanan is directing it. This film shot more in seas than in land will be a treat to watch with many stunning scenes shot entirely in sea. Originally slated for a September one release, these two films already in the last phase of post production may come up earlier than scheduled, to rank in maximum profits ahead of the overcrowding during Onam week.

Another action thriller from Kalabhavan Mani is ‘Red Salute’, will also come up on the same day. Another film titled ‘Aanachantham’, by Jayaraj which has Jayaram and Remya in the leads is also slated for release on September 1. It is said to be a good family entertainer with ample humor.

Sureshgopi will have two releases this Onam as 'Pathaaka' has now been shifted for an Onam release. The other film by the star is ‘Janmam’ by Joshy which will come up on September 5.

Dileep will have ‘Don’ - an action thriller directed by Shaji Kailash. Dileep and Gopika are playing the lead role in it. Another Dileep flick is ‘The Speed Track’ is also awaiting release during Onam but the dates are not yet confirmed.
