On his own

Surya is one actor in Kollywood who has come up the hard way in spite of his father Sivakumar being a popular hero for several years.

He acted in several films and ploughed the difficult track until he got the right break in Nandha.

Now he is fully on to his own.

An actor keen on improvising his role and daring to experiment on screen, Surya says, ‘though I acted in some films before, Nandha chiseled the actor in me.

Pithamagan gave me a totally different feel while Kaakha Kaakha brought the best out of me. I would yet say I am looking out for a role which I would say is complete.’

Keenly awaiting his next release Ghajini, Surya says, director Murugadoss is an excellent technician and a story-teller. The hero in Ghajini is not me, but the tight script penned by Murugadoss. I have played two different characters in it’.

‘I take utmost pain to ensure that I don’t do roles that resemble my earlier movies. I observe people closely and use them on screen’.

Surya, like his father, believes in individuality.

Chip off the old block, nah?
