Suhasini-turned Sneha is understandably excited as it's curtains-up time for Vasool Raja MBBS. A full-fledged humor role only made her doubly serious to do justice to the character.
When she assured you that one will see a different facet of hers, rolling her eyes all over the place, the conversation had already warmed up for the perfect take-off.
A clear sign of her strides is evident in the 24 films she has done in a span of three years - Tamil taking the cake with 19. How far she has traversed from the days of Anandham, making merry in a cameo, literally dancing her way to the viewers' hearts. That more than made up for the disappointment of her debut vehicle Ennavale crashing at the box-office. 'The script looked fine but somewhere along the line it slipped. I was still in a trance then, totally in an alien surrounding. Maybe, with all that experience behind me, I would have done a better job now.
' It was more than a dream come true to be paired with Kamal Haasan with the powerhouse Prabhu around. 'As a kid watching Moonram Pirai, it never hit me then that one day I will be paired with him. I had always admired director Charan for his exquisite style of presentation. He allowed me the freedom to improvise and got the best out of me. I guess my star was in the right place.'
Sneha's comfort was conspicuous essaying the dual character of Sathya and Janani in Parthiban Kanavu. That was when one got the feel that there is so much to be extracted from her. Behind that innocuous smile and the friendly demeanor, there was a sharpness in that character which she brought out with ridiculous ease.'Easily my best role till date,' as she re winded the days, pleased-as-punch. 'It was a matured character, bubbly in the early part but changing track once the wedding bells ring. When you do a good role, the satisfaction envelops you. I relished every frame, the experience a keepsake one.'
Doing a thriller like the forthcoming Adhu where she is a blind woman driven by some force is the sort of variety, doing wonders to her adrenaline level. 'Had always believed there is a force above us. It was a question of applying myself to the task. Once there, the conviction should follow suit.'
Sneha is not ready for the heavy women-oriented films, though offers have been coming. Not short on confidence but unsure if she was pressing the fast forward mode a little early. 'It will be a real test and a reflection of one's staying prowess to be saddled with such responsibility. When it comes I should be ready for it.'
Sneha is in comfort zone - Bose, Adhu and Ayudham all lined-up. Repetitive films have no place for her - the sort she refused post- Autograph would have needed a third hand to count. Recalling her signature days, Autograph will have a special place in my heart. Not everyday you get to work in such scripts. The song with the special children was a special one. There were lessons to be learnt, each unit member deriving a new meaning for joy.'
Glamour beyond a point has been taboo for her right from the Ennavale days. Has she compromised on that?
'No way. When the songs are captured in a rich way, the imperative need is for rich costumes. It should not be construed in any other way.'
No frills or airs make Sneha a much sought-after artiste. Every time she meets the demand, the expectations only soar. You almost get the feeling that the best in her is yet to come. No mood to counter that, her parting shot summed it up. 'You have to convey the feelings from the bottom of your heart. In real life, you could say a no keeping a straight face. But the same could be spelt out in six different ways in front of the camera. The body language needs be pronounced.' A character molded in art form and dramatized to meaningful limits is her idea of good cinema.
'Things could not have rolled better,'' she signed off with a smile, you would have longed to swap.
