A passenger on a flight from UK to Pakistan opened the emergency exit door thinking it was the toilet, leading to a severe delay. the incident took place when the flight was still on the ground. The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK702 was scheduled to depart at 9:20 pm on Friday from Manchester Airport. Following the delay due to the opening of the cabin door, the flight only took off at 4:59 am the next day, more than 7 hours delayed.
The emergency inflatable slide was deployed when the emergency exit was opened and 40 passengers had to be offloaded. PIA conveyed their regret about the incident on Twitter. A spokesperson from the airlines mentioned that the passengers were provided transportation and accommodation and that they would be adjusted on the next available flight.
We regret the delay of PK771, which is an unfortunate consequence of the delay of PK702, caused due to a passenger opening the emergency door. We strongly urge passengers to follow security instructions as such mishaps result in inconvenience of hundreds of other passengers.
