Oh My Friend Music Review

The much-anticipated Oh My Friend album scores well at the level of giving you that feeling of spirited energy.  Three good numbers will keep you engrossed, while the rest are so-so.  For a debutante like Rahul Raj, it's a fairly good attempt.

Lyrics by Krishna Chaitanya and Sirivennela catch the spirit of OMF.  Though the former falters in at least one important situational song.

For all the sound music, the lyrics don't fail to catch your attention.  That is the reason why this song, wherein Karthik sings with a nasal voice, will grow on you when listen to it repeatedly.  Rahul Raj succeeds in involving us in the playful mood.

Despite the not-so-impressive instrumentation in this short ditty, Benny Dayal's voice comes as a surprise.  The metaphor of a growing plant as symbolic of their nurtured friendship, may be old but the modern musical touch spices up the feel.

Crooned by Sid and Shruti Hassan, the song doesn't seem to work at any level.  The lyrics are frivolous and the music is not refined.  If Sid's voice saves the day for this number, Shruti's urbane voice doesn't fit the canvas.

Artists: Ranjith, Sangeetha Prabhu, Sarah Satraub

The song induces a sense of deja vu.  The mellifluous voices of the singers, coupled with the modish instrumentation, makes Alochana Vasthene the best in the album.  Sirivennala's lyrics are simple and mirror the inner feelings of the actors in earthy terms.

This too, like Alochana Vasthene, induces a sense of deja vu.  But unlike that song, Vegam Vegam is amateurish.  Music-wise, it is chaotic.  And, everything, from the chorus and nuances to instrumention, is un-original.

The feel of the song will have you wanting to listen it more.  The romantic as well as melancholy play up to make Nenu Thaanani the unique one from the album. Sirivennala's lyrics capture the inner struggle of a lover with a hundred dilemmas and questions brilliantly.

It seems to be excessively inspired from the Rock On number Pichle Saat Dino Mein.  Maa Dadd Pockets is noisy and, to say the least, not very hummable.  Ideally, the spirit of the song should itself have been enough to keep us grooving.  Even the lyrics are total failure.
