Official clarification comes about ban on Google Pay

Fake news has gone out that Google Pay has been banned in India. Following the unfounded rumour, the National Payments Corporation of India has issued a statement saying that the news is untrue. The hashtag “GPayBanned By RBI” has been trending on Twitter and it seems to be a paid trend.

"Google Pay is authorised and secure," the NPCI said.

"The RBI authorised GPay as a Payments System Operator (PSO). Companies like Google Pay are app providers to the PSO," the NPCI added.

"We would like to clarify that GPay is classified as a Third Party App Provider (TPAP) that also provides UPI payment services like many others, working through banking partners and operating under the UPI framework of NPCI. All transactions made using any of the authorized TPAPs are fully protected by the redressal processes (sic)," NDTV has quoted the organization as saying.

A lot of tweeples are seen tweeting out that GPay was illegally launched in India. The authorities' clarification should put an end to the rumour.
