Ram Gopal Varma has finally made it official that 'Officer' is based on a true story. Nagarjuna's character is fashioned after an IPS officer.
"The story of my film is based upon IPS officer KM Prasanna from Karnataka. He was appointed as the chief of a SIT (Special Investigation Team) to investigate a highly reputed cop in Mumbai. It’s the details that Prasanna personally told me in 2010 that finally became the story of 'Officer'. Prasanna is at present the Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Mumbai," RGV says.
Is there any reason why Nag was cast for the role? "Prasanna does bear an uncanny resemblance to Nagarjuna. Comparing my personal interactions with both, I observed that they share a very similar demeanour and strength of mind, which I tried to capture in the film," the director observes.
'Officer', starring also Myra Sareen and Anwar Khan, will hit the screens on June 1.
