On Thursday evening, Mollywood filmmaker Shrikumar Menon, who had directed the 2018 film ‘Odiyan,’ starring Manju Warrier and Mohanlal, was arrested by the Alappuzha South Police for committing financial fraud.
Reportedly, the filmmaker was arrested following the complaint filed by a business group named Sree Valsam Group of Companies. According to their complaint, which was filed a few months ago, the filmmaker borrowed a whopping sum of rupees 1 crore from the business group for film production. However, the filmmaker failed to repay the amount, which was supposed to be returned two years ago. After he repeatedly failed to return the money, the police booked him. Though the filmmaker had approached the court seeking anticipatory bail, he was denied the same. He will be produced in the court by evening.
Shrikumar Menon, an ad filmmaker turned director, became a popular name after he made his directorial debut with the much-hyped Mohanlal starrer ‘Odiyan’. The film failed to impress the audience and the director faced severe backlash on social media. Soon after the movie's failure at the box office, he also got into controversies. The director was even arrested and let off on bail after actress Manju Warrier filed a complaint stating that he issued a death threat to her and also defamed her on social media.
