Punish the audience.. They love it seems to be the policy of story writer Cheran and director Saiprakash of this 'Odahuttidavalu' Kannada film. Innumerable times the sister has died on the silver screen and no one gives a ray of hope for sisters. The larger and more indiscriminate the audience, the greater the need to safeguard and purify standards of quality and taste is perhaps this director is not aware.

Let us come straight to the subject of this Tamil film remake 'Porkalam' that is 'Odahuttidavalu'.

The protagonist belief is that a dumb sister is equivalent to nature. The trees, the rivers, the mountains do not speak yet they lead a life. So my sister is also like that. What he wants is that no should pin point the lacunae in his daughter and she has to get a nice house to live after marriage. Umpteen times this has been told this on Indian screen! But in a village backdrop with the pot making business the hero faces a series of pot holes in the marriage of his 'Odahuttidavalu' - that is his sister. When the demand of dowry surface for his sister marriage he sells the piece of land from which he draws raw stock for pot making. Like how every subject should have a villain in this case the father of protagonist turns villain. The money kept in the cupboard is spent for liquor and playing cards by the father who is supposed to support the marriage. This shatters the hopes of brother and sister. While the sister takes the extreme step the brother unknowingly piles up mud where his sister has decided to end her life. They go pathless. What is the pain the protagonist undergoes? He gives up his marriage with beautiful girl and gives life to a physically handicap girl.

The subject is not that refreshing as the director claims. Saiprakash has done such heart touching films in the past.

Ravichandran the love master of Kannada cinema lay down in this emotional film. It is not his cup of tea. Radhika and Rakshita are not just glamour dolls. They have chance to emote their heart burns and they are convincing. For the sister role at least the nativity could have been brought in. Rangayana Raghu the key destructor of peace in the film has been extremely good. So is Komalkumar. Sadhu Kokila in 'Jogi' get is boring.

Three of the songs scored by Patnayak are good in lyrics and melody. Thangi Naguthale.., Mathu Belli Kane Mouna Chinna Kane and Mandyadhindha Mannu Thandu.... remain in the memory for long.

GSV Seethararam the permanent cinematographer of Ravichandran starring films has been very brilliant. He maintains the mood and color required the film throughout.

If you are a sentimental, not think about logic you may watch this movie.

Scoring - 6/10
